She was the "wonder" that we wandered with, as we spent whole days singing, playing, fixing meals that a 13-month-old would enjoy, and swinging in the backyard. Our whole day was centered around keeping our girl happy and healthy.
She's trying out her legs, and it's fun to watch her learn new things every day. What a joy to be a grandparent!
Since this is a travel blog, we should highlight the few times we got in the car and explored our new town. We tried different local parks for a long stroller ride each morning.
On Saturday morning, we went to the Lenexa farmer's market. With free parking in the city center parking garage, we found that the awnings also provided shade for the market.
Denisa found some garden peas that she covets every spring. These were especially fresh and delicious!
We strolled around the very new city center market place. The glass front building on the left is the library, which just opened this weekend. We watched as people got lessons on the state-of-the-art self check-out system in the library.
But the best field trip of our stay was to the Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead. The same cousin that is storing our motor home, alerted us that it was free admission weekend here. We couldn't pass up a free trip to the farm!
Carter's favorite toy is her Old McDonald tractor with its trailer-full of farm animals that make the appropriate sounds.
So we couldn't wait to introduce her to the real versions of those farm animals like this baby calf--or as she would say it, we introduced her to this "moo."
For some reason, she was delighted with the ducks,
but she couldn't wait to get away from the big animals like the horses.
We also saw (and took pictures) of the chickens, rabbits, pigs, and . . . But our favorite stop was the pen of baby goats.
On our second trip through this pen, Carter even liked the idea of touching these docile goats. It was fun to watch her wander through these wonders of farm animals for the first time!
The farmstead was a beautiful place, and we had a delightful morning to explore it.
Denisa's grandmother grew hollyhocks out by the barn, so Denisa couldn't help but snap this picture of these tall barnyard flowers at the farmstead.
We had only been back to the car for a few minutes when our little farmer was fast asleep in her car seat. We wore her out this morning!
So after five days and nights of full-time baby-sitting, we had our last sunset over Lenexa. We have mixed emotions as we're anxious to be on the road wandering to new and interesting parts of this country . . .
but we'll certainly miss spending time with one of our favorite wonders of all--our granddaughter.
