After 10 days in the panhandle of Oklahoma, and another week near Kansas City, it was nice to get back to our own bed and home. The motor home had been waiting patiently for us in Denisa's sister and brother-in-law's driveway in Edmond, Oklahoma. The six-hour drive from Kansas City to the Oklahoma City area was made longer by the threat of severe weather in our path. Our youngest son sent us this picture of the forecast for baseball-size hail that included most of the state of Oklahoma.
We were headed right into the heart of that forecast. So we spent some time sitting in parking lots and in rest areas as we waited for the storm to pass over the interstate right in front of us. As so many times before, we felt the hand of God protecting us as that severe storm parted and left us and our motor home unscathed.
We had one day to do some social-distancing with relatives in the Oklahoma City metro area. Denisa and her sister Connie got in lots of visiting while walking the mowed path around their pasture. What's that sitting on the fence ahead of them?
Wildlife pictures taken with a cell phone are always poor quality. But the zoomed-in picture shows a blurry scissortail flycatcher that let us get remarkably close before he flew away. This is the state bird of Oklahoma, and we have to say that we have seldom seen these birds with their unusually-long-scissor-like tails in other states in our travels.
We are game players, and we found a way to play a game six feet apart. We each had our own set of dice and successfully played several games of Quixx while we sat at separate card tables in the garage with the big garage door open. We're just sorry that we forgot to take a picture of our social-distancing game.
We also visited Denisa's sister Debra, and played with their new remote control cars in their driveway. Being quarantined leads people to make interesting purchases!
Our next stop was at our son and daughter-in-law's house, where we took a social-distancing walk to an open grassy area with their dog.
That's where we got to see George's new trick of catching frisbees!
After another night in the motor home in the drive-way, we're on the road again! Denisa's sister got up this morning to make a batch of brownies. They were still warm when she gave them to us for our road-trip snack! She also sent us on the road with new face masks, using the hard-to-find elastic that Denisa found in her sewing supplies. You can see our new masks on the dash board, ready for our next stop as we head down the road.
Our first stop was to fill up with diesel. We have broken our record for the cheapest diesel we've ever purchased since we started full-timing in 2015. We filled up that 100 gallon tank with $1.59 per gallon diesel.
This time we're heading north to this great site at Honey Creek State Park at Grove, Oklahoma. That's the Grand Lake O' the Cherokees in our backyard!
We had just gotten the slides out and the motor home set up when we had special visitors! This is our daughter-in-law, her mother, and our granddaughter.
We're on the road again because we're here to celebrate a special occasion. Just ten days ago we were traveling to celebrate a 90th birthday, and now we've traveled here for a 2nd birthday! It feels good to be on the road again!
