The picture above is of our nephew Matt and his beautiful family, standing in front of the house where they are vacationing. It's at the top of a mountain surrounded by three golf courses. One of those courses is visible from the back deck. This is also a great spot to watch for wildlife that saunter across the open fairways.
They were grilling out steaks that night, and they invited us over for the meal. The food was delicious and the company was divine. That included Mark's brother and his wife. Afterwards we took sunset pictures of them with their grandchildren. We love it that our siblings will share their grandchildren with us!
Ashlyn and Denisa picked wildflower bouquets for Ashlyn's mother and grandmother. Denisa loves a girl that loves flowers!
As we enjoyed a beautiful sun setting behind the mountains that surround us, Denisa figured out that Reid and Cole are about as tall as she is!
This house is so big that they even had enough bedrooms (each with its own private bathroom) to invite us to spend the night too. After 12 nights taking military showers to conserve water because we didn't have water hook-ups for the motor home, taking a long hot shower was heavenly! And we got to see this sweet family again the next day. They had reserved a raft trip, and they had two extra spots that we can use! So we met them for a day of water adventures!
We drove to Glenwood Springs, and then the rafting company transported us and our guide and our raft to the town of Carbondale. This is interesting, considering that our next campground is just a mile from our put-in spot for this rafting trip.
We are on the Roaring Forks, a great river for family rafting.
One side of the raft was manned by Reid, Shannon, and Matt.
The other side was covered by Cole, Ashlyn, Denisa and Mark.
Once Denisa started taking pictures of our rafting crew, our guide gave her a hard time about not doing her share of rowing. But she couldn't help taking pictures of our good-looking rowing crew that seemed to be keeping us on course without her help.
Ashlyn became our guide during a set of rapids. She was sitting at the back of the raft with our guide, shouting out instructions in her 6-year-old voice to get us through the rough water.
One of the kids' favorite parts of the float trip was when we beached the raft halfway through. Our guide taught them how to float the river current without a raft.
Mark and Matt stayed at one end, catching any floaters that had a hard time getting to shore through the swift current.
Denisa was one of those floaters that needed to be caught.
As soon as they floated down the river, they were out of the water to dash back upstream for another float. They were having a great time!
We finally got back in the boat for the rest of the float into Glenwood Springs. After an evening at the farmers' market and dinner in the pedestrian area downtown, a very tired car-load headed home. We had to say our sweet good-byes, and went back to our camp site at Gore Creek to run our generator and spend our last night there. We never know who we will get to see while we were wandering, and we loved getting to spend these two days with these special relatives!
