Months ago, we made plans to meet our oldest son, his wife, and their daughter some place fun! We picked Lake Tahoe, and they bought their airline tickets for August. Then we got our week-long reservation at at the closest campground and planned our summer's travel around arriving at Tahoe at the same time. All that was done before California's fire season blossomed into the worst in history. But we are so glad they're here!
We picked them up at the airport in Reno, Nevada, where you can find slot machines even in the waiting area.
Denisa wishes she had a video of when they came out of the arrivals entrance. Gram was waving, and as soon as Carter caught sight of her, she started running and squealing. We embraced and both laughed and squealed some more, much to the entertainment of the rest of the airplane's passengers. If Denisa had a video of that, she would watch it every day! Gram was so happy that she forgot to even greet Luke and Jordan! Then Carter wanted to know where Grand-dude was, so we ran outside to find him guarding our vehicle in the pick-up zone. He did get a picture of her excited approach to see Grand-dude!
While Luke and Jordan are staying with friends in Truckee, California, Carter is sleeping in the "moto-home." She loves that we have a steering wheel in the living room so she can drive us to the zoo . . . or the farm . . . or to school . . . She has a great imagination, and we so enjoyed imagining right along with her.
We have been watching the smoke forecast for this area, so we know how blessed we were to have a blue-sky day here on their first day. We took advantage of it and spent the entire day outside.
We went hiking, and Luke gets the award for having the cutest backpack on the trail.
We hiked the Tahoe Rim Trail to the top of Picnic Rock, with views of Lake Tahoe behind us.
We had lots of rocks and dirt to play in at the top, and took lots of pictures--including this proud mother and her son.
Next stop was a picnic lunch at the beach, followed with some water time. We are at King's Beach on Lake Tahoe, which has lots of shallow water perfect for a three-year-old to explore.
While Carter was the only one that went swimming, she wasn't the only one that got wet.
We're so happy that they're here!
The water was chilly, but Carter didn't seem to mind.
When she finally got chilled, Grand-dude had to wrap her up and snuggle her until she was warm. We're so glad they're finally here, and we're looking forward to more days together!
