Heading South to Idaho

We have been enjoying Montana for well over a month, but the changing weather indicates it's time for us to head south into Idaho. We crossed the state line just a few miles from our campsite near West Yellowstone. We crossed the continental divide at the elevation of 7,072 feet at the same time.

It was a beautiful drive, with a sprinkling of aspens that are turning gold and orange. We are heading south, looking for a good place to hang out for a few days during some wet weather. We are glad that this area is finally getting some much-needed moisture, and we see storm clouds forming on the road towards our next destination.

We discovered a nice county park on the Ririe Reservoir, that looks like a good place to wait out the weather.

We walked down to the lake on our first afternoon. Denisa is standing by the lake, while Mark is on the cliff near where the motor home is parked.

We found that cliff was a great place for watching the aerial antics of the raptors that live in this river canyon.

We soon found out we are living in the midst of a healthy population of eagles. Overhead, we watched as a juvenile bald eagle was gliding on the breeze.

It's easier to spot the white heads and tail feathers of the older eagles.

The eagles really showed up when the ospreys started catching fish. We had a good time trying to catch a photo of the just-caught fish in the osprey's talons.

We saw three different ospreys dive into the lake to make successful catches. The extra weight of the fish slowed their flight. Then they had to dodge the eagles swooping in to try to steal the fish. We saw as many as 5 eagles circling after the osprey's prize. Denisa was always cheering for the osprey, hoping they got to keep their well-deserved meal.

We had been sitting on our cliff seats for an hour and a half, when the setting sun was turning everything to gold around us. Who  needs television when there is natural entertainment like this?

We had a balcony seat to watch as the sun hit the horizon and turned the sky to orange.

The birds were still gliding through the clouds as the sky changed color before our eyes.

After our entertainment (compliments of the birds), we watched God's fireworks as He lit up the sky with sunset. We have wandered into more of God's wonders sitting by our camp site overlooking our new location. We think we're going to like it here!
