The last day before launching on this great adventure was
crazy! We waited until the last day to
move anything that would freeze or would tempt the mice to visit again. That meant 3 more carloads to unpack into the
motorhome, plus final good-byes to friends on campus. I guess it is time to leave, because we heard
more than once, “Are you still here?”
Mark put the bike rack on the car, turned in his keys for
the last time, and checked all the tires. Denisa did the last packing and the last
apartment cleaning. We stopped for a
last meal at the university cafeteria, and Denisa got a last noon walk with her
dear friend Patti. There were enough “lasts”
to last a long time!
We had hoped to pull
out by 3:00, so we could be at our first destination—our good friends’ driveway
near Altus—before dark. But everything always
takes longer than you expect, and we were lucky to get hitched up before it got
dark. We headed out of Weatherford just
as the pinks and oranges filled the western sky.
It’s at this point that I would love to
insert a picture of the sunset taken through the wide expanse of our 7 foot x 3
foot windshield. But even though we
talked about the beautiful colors of the sunset, we didn’t have the forethought
to snap a picture. We were too busy
watching the new tire monitoring system, worrying about the new bike rack on
the car, reviewing that we hitched up the tow vehicle correctly, and
contemplating driving after dark for the first time. We were finally launching on our full-time adventure
as we drove off into the sunset!
