The Last Week of Work EVER!

We have been planning for retirement for years, so it was almost surreal when the last week of work actually rolled onto the calendar.  It was one of the busiest weeks of our lives.  There were extra social events in the evenings, and our days were filled with trying to finish up projects at work.  We were honored with a retirement party at the university, and it was a great time to visit with co-workers that have become good friends.

Our co-workers sent us off with a beautiful money tree.  Thanks Dian for the hours that it took to roll all those bills into leaves!  We had many requests for seeds from that money tree, as several friends were interested in planting one.  We have put the cash to good use already, purchasing a special GPS made for trucks and big rigs.  It promises to keep our motorhome off those narrow residential streets and dead ends.  So our co-workers will be helping us to find our way across the country for years to come!

Friday, January 9 was our last day of work, and it was one for the record books. We both tried to get as many projects finished as we could to make it as easy as possible for our replacements. Denisa has worked 29 and a half years on the second floor of the Administration Building.  After climbing those steps thousands of times over those years, it is a strange feeling leaving the office for the last time.  Mark gave up his big corner office when his replacement was hired, so he had already cleaned out 25 years of old files.  He had to smile when he came upon the file that described the process of setting up the university on that mysterious thing called the internet and trained the campus on some new fangled process called email. We will miss the people we work with, but we are giddy thinking about the travel adventures in our future!
