Family Time in Oklahoma City

We spent five days in the Oklahoma City area, spending time with our two sons.   Our youngest son, Blake, is an engineer with Chesapeake Energy.  He gave us a Sunday afternoon tour around the outside of the building where he works.

Chesapeake has a beautiful campus in Oklahoma City, including flower beds that change each season.  They also have a day care center for workers' children, and an area where employees can have a vegetable garden.  We even tracked down the mother duck with her teenage ducklings that Blake has been watching grow up in the company water features.  So even though we were in the city, we get to include a wildlife picture of the day.
It is interesting that the same month that our oldest son is leaving Oklahoma City, our youngest son is moving back to Oklahoma City.  Blake's company will cover all the logistics of his move from Shreveport, Louisiana.  Since we are helping to move Luke later this week, we are very thankful that we aren't needed to move Blake.

While in Oklahoma City, our timing was good to get to attend the trendy "H and 8th Night Market."  On the last Friday night of the month, streets are closed around Hudson and 8th downtown to accommodate a long line of food trucks that converge in one area.  This picture was taken before the actual starting time of the market because the crowds were shoulder to shoulder by the end of the evening.

We can highly recommend the Smokin' Okie Barbecue Burrito we had for dinner that night.

We also got to spend time with Denisa’s two sisters and their families.  We’ll include a picture taken at graduation of Denisa with her sisters and Mother.  Thanks to Connie and Debra for letting us stay in their homes while we were in Oklahoma City for almost a week!

They helped with the food preparation for the graduation party, but also served up some tasty food at other times.  We discovered giant marshmallows at the grocery store and made the messiest smores ever.  Here Debra is modeling the proper way to eat one.

Denisa also got a ride on Dave's new Harley Davidson motorcycle.  This was her first ride on a Harley, so she borrowed the appropriate leather vest for her spin around town.

We've done all the tourist stops in Oklahoma over the years, so this was a good opportunity to spend good quality family time since we won't be back for a while.  We hope to see some of our family in other locations as we continue down the road later.
