Good-bye to Baby Carter and Kansas City

After several days in Oklahoma, we've made the seven-hour drive back to Kansas City to spend a few more days with our son and his wife, Luke and Jordan, and their daughter Carter.

We were there during the opening games of the college football season. So during the Oklahoma State University game, Mom and Carter dressed in their OSU clothes in support of those cowboy with their "pistols firing."

Likewise, Dad and daughter were dressed in their crimson game day gear for the University of Oklahoma football game. Just like her onesie says, we agree that she is the "cutest fan ever!" Both teams won their season openers, so everyone in this house divided was happy--at least until the bedlam game.

It wasn't planned, but Gram and granddaughter also dressed alike one day with our navy with white polka dots.

Another day we got to see where Luke will be starting his medical career at Johnson County Pediatrics. Even though he hadn't started yet, it was fun to see that Dr. Engelman's name was already listed among the professionals on the directory in the lobby.

We got to take a tour of Dr. Luke's new office, and his three exam rooms. For some reason, Carter keeps showing up in these pictures.

She's weighing in at a healthy 14.2 pounds at Dad's office baby scale.

We were there when Luke went in for his first official day at the clinic. We've taken many "first day of school" pictures over the years, so it seemed fitting to snap this "first day of work" photo as well.

We're getting to spend some good quality time with our four-month-old granddaughter. Denisa is most proud that after spending hours of practice, Carter can now do a pretty good raspberry.

Gram usually does the bottle feeding, but Granddad is best at getting her to burp. This is the view of her perched up on his shoulder.

Right after a particularly good burp, Carter is looking up at Granddad with admiration. Good job to both!

Granddad's arms got a good workout, as he seemed to be holding her all the time since she prefers to be on the move. His face doesn't show up in many pictures, but you can usually see his shoulder or arms as he is the reason she's smiling.

Just in case we should make it seem like Carter is smiling all the time, we snapped this picture (with Granddad holding her). Even when she's not smiling, we think she's cute!

All this baby activity can wear us out. Even the dog needed a nap this afternoon.

After another three days with Carter, it's time for us to head home. It was hard to leave Kansas City, and even less fun to make the 13-hour drive back to where the motor home was waiting for us in Michigan. We're ready to wander more of God's wonders, but it was sure fun spending time with this precious little wonder and her parents for a few days!
